Physical Education

PE Time

Headteachers, Heads of PE and Primary Link teachers have worked hard to timetable 2 hours of high quality physical education a week for all their pupils. Some schools within the partnership have managed to move beyond this minimum target and provide their pupils with even greater PE time. Our lead secondary School in Sandwich Technology School, who provide their pupils with an average of 155 minutes of PE curriculum time per week. Our lead school in the primary sector is Sandwich Junior School, who provide their pupils with an average of 176 minutes per week during curriculum time. By 2010, the target is for 5 hours of PE and sport per pupil per week.

Informal activity

As well as introducing the active playtime scheme schools have been investigating other ways to increase activity levels. The partnership has supplied schools with resources called ‘Take 10', and speed stacking. Green Park Community Primary School are trialling ‘wake up and shake up', with the help of SSCo, Emma Perkins,  and we are hoping to roll this out across all schools from Sept 08.

CPD

The partnership and sports college has worked with Kent Advisory Service to deliver continuing professional development (CPD) for staff. PLT's are funded to be released from their teaching duties to attend such training. SSCo's and coaches also offer support to colleagues delivering PE in primary school. It is hoped that this support will enable teachers to deliver high quality PE and School Sport. After the PLT Module on 23rd September, we will be rolling out and advertising our full CPD programme, as in previous years.
