What difference have we made?

FROM 2006/7 PESSCL RESULTS WE FOUND:

PE & School Sport

83% of our schools are now providing pupils with 2 hours of PE and School Sport, compared with 72% in 2005/2006. We are well on track to meet the 2008 national target of 85%

PE Curriculum Time

The schools across the Dover District SSP are doing an average of 117 minutes of PE per week, compared to 110 minutes in 2005/2006.

Variety of Provision

The average number of different activities offered (from the list of sports) has increased from 15 to 17, just above the National average.

Competition

Intra school competition stands at 44%, and Inter school competition at 37%, which is well above the national average

Community Club Links

The average number of links a school has with a community club has risen from 1.72 to 3.15 and the number of pupils attending those clubs on average per school has risen from    8 to 17. We expect to see an increase in these figures due to the implementation of a club link policy this year, and we are working hard to make this a focus.

Leadership

Pupils involved in volunteering and leadership has increased from 4% to 7%. We are hoping for an increase in this due to more pupils helping out in tournaments and festivals, and pupils becoming involved in the community volunteering project.

Other

  • In November 2007 The Dover District School Sport Partnership received £1,000 prize for getting 100% returns in the PESSCL survey, and were presented with their prize by Dame Kelly Holmes at the PDM conference in Telford.
  • Our Big Lottery Funded projects are running at 95% delivery, with the greatest success being linked to our Diddies Dance Club and the Active Play project.
  • We were successful in gaining funding for a Community Dance and Gymnastics Coordinator
  • From September 2007 we have had access to a Competition Manager, Neil Castle.
  • We competed in every discipline across the Kent Schools Games, in June, and hope to compete in all the sports again in the East Kent school games in June 2009.
